Life inside the palace: Climb up the royal family tree and see who’s on top
Have you ever drawn your family tree? Easy, isn’t it? Well the royal family tree is something quite different. And with Meghan Markle & Prince Harry leaving, how long will this tree last? Despite recent events, the family tree is still holding pretty steady. Let’s take a look.
Queen Elizabeth II
To make your royal family tree journey easier, we thought we’d start with Queen Elizabeth II. If you didn’t already know, the Queen wasn’t the original air to the monarchy. In fact, her father King George VI took over from his brother Edward VIII when he married divorcee Wallis Simpson.
Queen Elizabeth II was King George VI & Queen Mary’s eldest child and sister of Princess Margaret (passed away in 2002). According to Town & Country Magazine, Prince Margaret was engaged to divorce Peter Townsend and didn’t wed because the Church of England wouldn’t approve her marrying a divorcee (yes, similar to her uncle Edward VIII) and married photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones for twenty years before they divorced.
However, Princess Margaret’s sister Queen Elizabeth II married The Duke of Edinburgh in 1974 before she became the highest and most bada** member British monarch.
Prince Philip
Originally, Prince Philip was known as the prince of Greece & Denmark. After marrying former-Princess Elizabeth II in 1947, he has reportedly become the “longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch” and the longest-living male in the British royal family.
The reigning couple Prince Philip & Queen Elizabeth II had four children: Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward.
Prince Edward
Prince Edward is the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II & Prince Philip and was born in 1964. The Earl of Wessex attended Cambridge University and soon joined the Royal Marines to pay tribute to the royal monarch. He then married Sophie Rhys-Jones and had two beautiful children together: Lady Louise Windsor & James Viscount Severn.
Princess Anne
The only daughter of Her Majesty the Queen, Princess Anne was born in 1950 and has taken after her parents in many ways as an equestrian and was reportedly the first member of the royal family to compete in the Olympic Games.
Princess Anne wasn’t just an athlete, but also married Captain Mark Philips in 1973 and divorced after having two children (Zara Tindall & Peter Philips) in 1992. She is now married to Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. But Princess Anne was hardly in the press like her older & infamous brothers Prince Andrew & Prince Charles.
Prince Andrew
Besides Prince Andrew defending his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein in his BBC interview in 2019, Prince Andrew was actually an important part of the royal family tree. In fact, the Duke of York was second in line for the throne when he was born, but today he’s not even close.
According to Town & Country, Queen Elizabeth’s second son took part in the Falklands War in 1982 before he married Sarah-Ferguson in 1986. Since then, Prince Andrew welcomed his daughters Princess Beatrice & Princess Eugenie.
Prince Charles
The eldest son of Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip is The Prince of Wales. Prince Charles may have had a rocky history when it comes to his position as first in line to the throne, but let us assure you that Prince Charles has done his royal duties to earn his title.
Despite marrying the beautiful & late Princess Diana (Princess of Wales) in 1981, he brought us the next heirs to the throne: Prince William & Prince Harry. He later married his old friend Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Prince William
Born in 1982, the eldest son of Prince Charles & Princess Diana, Prince William is second in line of succession. As Time magazine noted, the Duke of Cambridge has worked tirelessly for countless charities like Centrepoint, and was a member of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and in the Royal Air Force as an impressive search-and-rescue pilot.
Since then, he married Kate Middleton who became the Duchess of Cambridge. And they have three adorable children & heirs to the throne: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Prince Harry
Though we know Prince Harry might not be keen to join the royal family for tea anytime soon, he is still part of the royal family tree as sixth in line to the throne. Prince Harry was born in 1984 and is Prince Charles & Princess Diana’s youngest son who married Suits actress Meghan Markle in 2013. The Duke & Duchess of Sussex have a stunning baby boy named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and are expecting a baby girl according to their recent Oprah Winfrey interview.
