‘Selling Sunset’ cast: Are they pretending to be real estate agents?
Selling Sunset is a Netflix reality show about high profile real estate agents and the drama ensuing within the Oppenheim Group – the real estate company these agents work for. Or is it?
Chrissy Teigen, best known for being a model, recently went to Twitter to posit the idea the show’s stars aren’t actually real estate agents. She started with a tweet about how she finally watched the show after hearing so much about it & said she didn’t find the people on the show to be as “mean or insane” as everyone said.
She then finished off her thread of tweets saying she looks at a lot of Los Angeles real estate & has never heard of any of the people featured in Selling Sunset, nor have any of the agents she knows.
I will say, I look at LA real estate a lot and have never seen any of these people lol either have our agents, who I have obsessively asked.

More scripted than not?
Most people these days are fully aware of the fact shows in the reality genre aren’t quite as true-to-life as they’re advertised to be. Situations are often intentionally set up, arguments are sometimes re-recorded if the footage wasn’t good enough the first time around, and sometimes people are even told what to say or do.
There’s a reason most reality shows still have a director credit.
So, Teigen putting forth the idea that perhaps Selling Sunset’s cast is made up of actors and not real estate agents didn’t necessarily give many people a shock. Some people didn’t take kindly to the casual accusation though – including the cast themselves.
Lol 🤔 I’m in 6 escrows currently and have sold a few dozens of homes in the recent past. I’m sure whoever your agent is, if I haven’t had the pleasure of working with them yet, I will soon. 👌💯

Mary Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald, one of the realtors on Selling Sunset replied directly to Teigen’s tweet with some details about current sales she’s in the process of – though obviously she could only provide so many details due to it being a tweet, plus leaking business details would be less than ideal.
Fitzgerald also said she expects to work with whomever Chrissy Teigen’s agent is in the near future due to the large number of sales she is performing.
That Terrina Chrishell girl was on Days of our Lives and All my children not that long ago, hard to imagine her selling homes and being onset all day as a side job , now she can do both at the same time

Unsurprised
One follower of Teigen on Twitter pointed out that Chrishell Stause has been on multiple soap operas over the years, and Stause’s IMDb page corroborates this.
Stause was on All my Children from 2005 – 2011, Youthful Daze from 2015 – 2016, The Young and the Restless during 2016, and has had a role on Days of Our Lives starting back in 2013 all the way to the present.
This certainly lends credence to the idea that at least some of Selling Sunset’s cast might be actors more than they’re realtors. Though defenders of Selling Sunset think it’s entirely possible for Stause to do both – we’ll let you decide for yourself how likely you think that is.
Mary you’re a boss. Chrissy you suck at supporting other women, stop passively firing shots, you’re better at baking cookies.

Others weren’t happy
One woman called Teigen out, seemingly implying that the model was participating in some internalized misogyny. In fact, a lot of people seemed rather annoyed with Teigen’s comment. One person saying, “IDK why Chrissy needs to make comments about every little thing”.
Another person said they went to the trouble of finding all of the cast’s realtor numbers on the California department of Real Estate’s webpage and was able to find them all.
Chrissy, thanks for watching our show! Regarding your agent's knowledge of members of my team, I respectfully don't know him either although that doesn't mean he isn't successful and didn't just sell you a stunning home in Weho (seriously, I love your new house).

Jason Oppenheim chimes in
Jason Oppenheim, one of the men who created the Oppenheim Group, also replied to Teigen saying that just because his agents & Teigen’s agents run in different circles doesn’t mean one or the other doesn’t exist.
Heather Rae Young
Young, another star of Selling Sunset said in an interview that her response was this:
“My response is I’ve had my real estate license since 2014. I’ve been with The Oppenheim Group since 2015. I sold my first house within three months of having my license. It was a $7.2 million house. A week later, I sold a one-and-a-half million dollar condo. And you know, you can look up the proof.”
“You can come to our office. Visit us. We’ve all been in the office for years and years and known each other for almost six years. So, you know, maybe because she doesn’t know us doesn’t mean we’re not real estate agents.”
Putting it to bed
Odds are there’s plenty of public documentation of the cast’s real estate sales somewhere on the internet for those with the determination to look & the knowledge of where to find it. The cast certainly doesn’t seem to be worried about anyone trying to find the truth.
What could be an interesting bonus storyline in the next season could be an appearance from Chrissy Teigen showing up at the Oppenheim Group’s offices, accepting the offer from Young to look at the paperwork & maybe even go to one of Young’s listings.
