Time for the Snatch Game: Who did the ‘Drag Race UK’ queens pick?
There’s three things guaranteed in life: death, taxes, and Snatch Game. Every version of Drag Race has their annual Snatch Game episode, so it’s no secret that we were all waiting for the Drag Race UK Snatch Game episode. With so many comedy queens this season, the game was sure going to be fire.
Our seven remaining queens were finally able to become an icon of UK media this week, and it was interesting, to say in the least. Like every version of the Snatch Game, some queens just cannot nail the character, while the others feel like they have been that character their entire lives. Here’s a rundown of all seven contestants this year.
Tia Kofi — Mel B (Scary Spice)
We’ll start with arguably the most disappointing performance of this year’s Snatch Game. Tia Kofi already started off on the wrong foot, because rather than go with her original idea of impersonating Dame Shirley Bassett, she let RuPaul push her towards Mel B. All because Mel B would allow Tia to have bigger hair.
Tia chose to play it safe, and then her performance of Mel B was even safer after Ru got in her head. You can tell by watching her she just didn’t have a strong game plan and was relying on the Eddie Murphy romance bit too hard. We’re blaming Ru for her elimination.
A’Whora — Louie Spence
Talk about camp – Dancer Louie Spence is a unique choice, considering he hasn’t exactly had much of a career since 2011. But A’Whora channeled his flexible legs and lisp for Snatch Game, and came out okay. Nothing super spectacular, since there isn’t much to work with when it comes to Louie.
Lawrence Chaney — Miriam Margolyes
The problem with picking a character actress is that she’s too busy getting absorbed into her character to give you any material. While Miriam infamously called herself a dyke on live Australian TV, that’s not enough to actually make a Snatch Game character out of. Even Lawrence figured this out early on.
It’s a shame too, because with three badges under her belt, you’d think the Drag Race UK frontrunner would be better at Snatch Game. Especially when Lawrence herself is very much a comedy queen. But like she said, the comedy queens are always the ones who are the worst at Snatch Game.
Ellie Diamond — Matt Lucas (as Vicky Pollard)
Ru told Ellie to do Snatch Game for her twin brother and it’s clear she put everything she could into this performance. But at the same time, Ellie is definitely not a comedy queen, so she fell into the background of the other queens. That being said, her impression of Vicky is spot-on, and had us wanting another Little Britain special.
Tayce — Jane Turner
It’s a sin Tayce is not taking home a RuPeter Badge for her Snatch Game performance. Even though it meant putting on a horrendous wig and a tracksuit straight from the 80s, Tayce put her all into that performance of Jane.
Tayce may have said she was playing Jane Turner, but it was clear she was playing Kath Day-Night. From the awful perm wig to the catchphrases, to the inappropriate outbursts, Kath was alive and well in Drag Race UK Snatch Game. She wasn’t lying; Tayce knew Kath like the back of her hand.
Bimini Bon-Boulash — Katie Price
As bitter as we are about Tayce came second to Bimini, we can’t pretend Bimini’s badge wasn’t well-deserved. Katie Price is the tabloid queen of the UK, from her drunk driving stories to her scandal-ridden relationships, so there’s plenty of jokes to be made about her.
Bimini not only takes that chaotic energy of a tabloid star, but of a woman who spends her life on the party scene. Every answer she gave during the Snatch Game felt natural, and had the entire room dying of laughter. She knows how to keep the crowd entertained.
Sister Sister — Psychic Sally
TV psychics are full of it, and Psychic Sally is no different. If anything, the biggest criticism about Sister Sister’s performance is that it felt like it could’ve easily been any other TV psychic. From the random, slightly obvious predictions, to having a spirit communicate in the middle of writing answers, she nailed the persona to a T. It was just a bit bland.
