Golden Tate and Jalen Ramsey: Everything to know about their feud today
The Sunday football game between the Los Angeles Rams & New York Giants ended with fists flying. While the Rams won the game 17-9, the real story came after the clock winded down to zero. Rams quarterback Jalen Ramsey and Giants wide receiver Golden Tate have a personal history with one another and tensions between them rose to a breaking point on Sunday.
Ramsey & Tate got into a fight, causing both teams to intervene. This fight had been building up on both sides until they finally collided on the field. Here are the details about why they fought and what happened.
Golden Tate’s sister
Breonna Tate, sister of Golden Tate, was in a relationship with Ramsey. Ramsey & Breonna have two kids together, making Ramsey the father of two of Tate’s nieces. However, Ramsey recently broke off his relationship with Breonna while she was pregnant with their third child last summer.
Last October, Ramsey posted a picture of himself with his new girlfriend. Tate hasn’t hidden his feelings towards Ramsey as he told The New York Post last October he was “not happy at all with the disrespect that he’s [Ramsey] shown towards my sister, and the things he’s done in the past.” Things got heated during Sunday’s game when Ramsey delivered a vicious hit to Tate.
Ramsey’s history of talking trash
Ramsey is known to be one of the league’s biggest trash-talkers, knowing exactly what to say in order to rile up his opponents. He has called several players trash or overrated throughout the years, including quarterbacks Josh Allen, Matt Ryan, and Ben Roethlisberger, along with tight ends Rob Gronkowski, WR Tyreek Hill, and WR AJ Green.
Green & Ramsey ended up fighting as well, so Ramsey is no stranger to on-field confrontations with other players he has irked in some way. Ramsey’s fight with Tate is another episode of drama Ramsey has been involved in on the field. According to ESPN, Ramsey was seen trying to start another confrontation with Tate by waiting outside of the Giant’s postgame locker room.
Who threw the first punch?
According to ESPN, Giants coach Joe Judge believes it was Ramsey who threw the first punch and Tate acted in self-defense.
“Look, all I have to say is the account I got from a number of our players — there is a history obviously between them, and there was a punch thrown,” Judge said. “Golden was defending himself. I was told he wasn’t the one who threw the punch. And everybody involved was trying to break it up.”
Judge was also told by several of his players that Tate & Ramsey had a personal history, so this fight was not completely unexpected.
Future punishment
Players who fight will often face punishment. Last season, a fight between Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and Pittsburgh Steelers QB Mason Rudolph resulted in Garrett being suspended for the rest of the season after he used Rudolph’s helmet as a weapon and hit Rudolph in the head with it.
According to ESPN, “suspensions are not expected for either player,” and the Giants are not disciplining Tate for his role in the fight.
“There are a number of things we still have to look through as a team right here,” Judge said. “But based on the information I was given and what I saw with my own eyes and what our players gave me, it didn’t sound like there was an immediate need for [discipline for Tate].”
However, Rams head coach Sean McVay’s answer was less clear on whether Ramsey would be disciplined by the Rams organization.
“Any of that stuff, we handle internally,” Mcvay said. “But there’s so many things that ended up occurring. I think it’s more about, let’s understand it, and let’s make sure that we learn from this situation.”

Football is an intense & physical sport, so fights do break out every so often. Ramsey & Tate used football as a way to exercise their frustrations with one another, but things got out of hand at the end of the game.
