Live out your bougiest dreams: The best luxury yachts for your rich fantasy
Okay, okay. We know that you probably can’t actually afford a billion-dollar yacht (unless you can – in which case, continue living your best, bougiest life!), but there’s nothing wrong with dreaming, right? You could always go for a nice vacation with a Tahiti yacht charter service, but why not dream big and imagine owning a yacht of your very own? Azzam
Sold at a whopping $650 million, the Azzam is the fourth most expensive luxury yacht in the world. The ship was commissioned by Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the current president of the United Arab Emirates, Emir of Abu Dhabi, commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, and chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council. (So we’re gathering that those jobs pay well?)
The Azzam was built by the German shipyard, Lürssen yachts. The company describes the interior, which was created by celebrated French interior designer Christophe Leoni, as “sophisticated, with luxurious decor inspired by the Empire style of the early 19th century.”
Lürssen also claimed that the Azzam was “the most complex and challenging yacht that has ever been built.” Unfortunately, not much else is known about the yacht, as its commissioner insisted on privacy after its 2013 release. But we do know it has to be pretty spectacular on that ship, and plus – aren’t some things better left to the imagination? 😉
Eclipse
When the Eclipse comes into the conversation, the Azzam suddenly appears modestly priced. At a rumored $1.5 billion worth, the yacht was built for Russian-Israeli businessman Roman Abramovich in 2010, and at the time the Eclipse was the biggest yacht in the world.
Luckily, Abramovich wanted to show off his prize as much as possible, so we do know a great deal about the Eclipse. The yacht contains seven-teen staterooms and a palatial master suite and has the ability to hold 85 crew members, requiring at least 70 at all times to keep it running smoothly. (Are they hiring? Asking for a friend.)
The exterior, created by Terence Disdale Design, has tiered decks that curve upward and bend at the ends. The Eclipse also has a 185-foot-long deck and one of the largest swimming pools of any super yacht. Other fun facts: the Eclipse can hold three helicopters (because why not?), and contains a giant spa, submarine, gym, and beach club.
Dubai
The Dubai was commissioned for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei by Blohm + Voss and Lürssen. Production was put on hold in 1998, however, and was subsequently sold to the government of Dubai, under the orders of their ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to start it up again through the company Platinum Yachts.
Still with us? Dubai is now owned by the sheikh, and has enough space for twenty-four guests and ninety-nine crew. It also has a landing pad for a Black Hawk helicopter, submarine garage, disco, and full cinema. And if he decides to throw any disco parties once the pandemic is over – we want in!
Topaz
The Topaz yacht, built by Lürssen in 2012, will ultimately set its owner back $527 million. The yacht is 482 feet long, and has eight giant decks and two helicopter landing pads. Inside, the Topaz is fully air-conditioned, has a swimming deck with a built-in swimming pool, gym, cinema, and conference room.
The Topaz is owned by Shaikh Mansour, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. He is also a member of the Abu Dhabi royal fam.
Serene
Built in 2011, the Serene is one of the largest – and most expensive – superyachts in the world. Owned by Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, the Serene cost $330 million. The ship was originally built for Russian Vodka tycoon Yuri Shelfer, however, and was once leased to Bill Gates for $5 million a week!
The Serene holds twenty-four guests and fifty-two crew members, a seawater pool, two helicopter pads that convert into a dance floor or a pool, (because, once again, why the heck not?). The ship also has a submarine, spa pools, snow room, steam room, jet stream pools, underwater viewing room, outdoor cinema, piano room, bar, conference room, sauna, fireplaces, swim-platforms with lifts, and beach club.
