Casino-based movies are everywhere. Here's a rundown of the most popular ones in Poland and what they teach us.

Why are Casino-Based Movies Popular in Poland and What Can They Teach You?

Disclaimer: gambling is addictive. If you or your loved ones suffer from gambling addiction, immediately ask for help at international – BeGambleAware, GamCare, Gamblers Anonymous, etc. – or local problem gambling organizations.

There’s no shortage of themes at casinos – nature, cosmos, underworld, etc. – you can pick anything you like and find bazillions of games in the wrapping you love. Likewise, in your leisure time, you can indulge in casino movies. Atlantic City, 21, Casino Royale, Rounders, The Sting, The Gambler, Croupier – there are dozens of renowned pictures and who knows how many less known ones that you can watch and get some insights from.

Speaking of the gambling insights, though, have you ever asked yourself, can casino movies teach you anything, or do they completely contort the reality of gambling? Let’s dig into this along with Aleksandra Maj, a casino movie lover and a gambling expert from KasynoHEX.

The Fable That Inspires

Before online casinos came about, movies were the only chance to sneak peek into the alluring world of gambling. The old-school iconic pictures like The Hustler, Atlantic City, Eight Men Out, The Cincinnati Kid, Color of Money, Tricheurs, and Let it Ride could give you a glimpse of what was happening behind the doors of chic brick-and-mortar casinos – and maybe even teach you some tricks.

Today, the fable is still alive, but it’s also clear that most of what movies broadcast is exaggerated or even mathematically impossible. But before we proceed to that part, let’s try to figure out why casino-based movies are so popular.

  • Inspiration, motivation, and stuff like that. Mind-boggling jackpots, unpredictable moves, and unreal outcomes are always in the movies, and that can be really inspiring unless you know the ropes.
  • Celebrities in action. Robert De Niro, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey, and stardom actors alike help you believe in the reality of the on-screen action even when it’s all fantasy.
  • Range of lifestyles. To each his own: from posh to criminal lifestyles, casino movies strike people from all walks of life, and especially those willing to make easy money.

There is a certain truth to what’s displayed in movies, but most of them translate nothing but a fable, a beautiful rags-to-riches story to fall in love with.

Tricks from Casino Movies: Possible, but not Probable

Movies have little to do with reality, but they can direct your attention to this or that trick that you can streamline at your casino online.

  • Card counting. One of the most popular casino movies, 21 highlights a card counting technique executed by a group of players. The trick brought them untold wealth in the movie, but it would barely be possible in reality since modern online casinos safeguard against card counting. However, it would be fair to admit that card counting is one of the very few viable tricks: if you find the right casino – for example, Vulkan Vegas, Slottica, or Energy Casino – and execute card counting perfectly (which would require strong memory and unorthodox mathematical skill), you might get an advantage of up to 1% over the casino. But then again, while it’s definitely possible on paper, it’s extremely hard to pull off in real life.
  • Improbable card combinations. In Casino Royale, four poker hands simultaneously feature a straight flush, a flush, and two full houses. That’s not impossible in reality, but the odds are against that, to say the least: 1 to 18 trillion, an event thousands of times less probable than being struck by lightning. Even a single Royal Flush appears not that often, only once in 649,739 combinations.
  • Too high stakes. The same poker hands in Casino Royale were battling for a total of more than $40 million, which wouldn’t be possible in real life since there’s always a limit to the maximum stake. But even if there were no such limit, there would hardly be any high-roller willing to put that much money at risk. Up until now, the biggest registered bet is $777,000 placed by William Lee Bergstrom on ‘Don’t Pass’ in Craps on September 24, 1980.

Movies are outstanding sources of inspiration, but you should take them with a grain of salt – or at least apply theory to practice with no risk while taking advantage of Demo Play at your online casino.
