IPL Records | Most Ducks in IPL

Dinesh Karthik had a torrid Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season, registering four ducks and going past Rohit Sharma in the unwanted race for the most ducks in IPL history. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player has 17 ducks in the IPL, the most for any batter – a record he would not be proud of.

 IPL Ducks

Ducks in cricket mean a batter has got out without scoring. In online cricket betting, ensure you don’t place your bets on a batter going through a rough time, just like Karthik in the IPL 2023.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik tops the list with 17 ducks. He got his 17th duck in the IPL when dismissed by Yash Dayal in the final league stage match of the IPL 2023 season.  Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is a classy player and a brilliant captain. The IPL 2023 season has been disappointing for him on a personal level. Rohit only managed to score 332 runs. In his overall IPL career, Rohit has been dismissed 16 times for a duck. Karthik overtook Rohit Sharma as the batter with the most ducks in IPL history this season.

  • Runs: 62122
  • Strike Rate:  130.05

 Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine is known for his bowling exploits. However, he has come up the batting order for Kolkata Knight Riders as a pinch hitter and played some tremendous knocks in IPL. Narine, who has scored a 15-ball half-century, has been dismissed 15 times for a duck.

 Mandeep Singh

Mandeep Singh is a handy batter, especially if he bats higher up the batting order. The IPL 2012 season was his best campaign, scoring 432 runs. The 31-year-old, who has represented Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals in IPL, is fourth on this list with 15 ducks.

With the type of shots that Glenn Maxwell plays, you can expect him to be on this list. He has been dismissed for a duck 14 times in the IPL. Maxwell, donning the Royal Challengers Bangalore shirt since the IPL 2022 season, scored 400 runs at a strike rate of 183.49 in the 2023 edition.

While Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma are two excellent batters who made the list, players like Manish Pandey, Ambati Rayudu, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, etc., got dismissed for a duck more than ten times in their IPL career.

Batters with the Most Ducks in IPL 2023

The following is the list of batters who got dismissed for more than three ducks in the IPL 2023 season:

  1. Jos Butter (Rajasthan Royals) – 5 ducks
  2. Dinesh Karthik (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – 4 ducks
  3. Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 3 ducks
  4. Harry Brook (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 3 ducks
  5. Krunal Pandya (Lucknow Supergiants) – 3 ducks

After his five ducks, Jos Buttler set an unwanted record as he registered the most ducks in a single IPL season. The Englishman was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2022 edition.

Concluding Thoughts

Every batter likes to contribute to the team’s cause but is not always successful. It could boil down to a player’s form. In a fast-paced format like T20, batters are likelier to take more risks, increasing their chances of getting out on a duck.
