Lucky enough to get a PS5? Try out these exclusive games

The PlayStation 5 is harder to obtain right now than almost any other gaming console. Stores can’t keep them in stock, and Sony had to delay new shipments through the entirety of April. For any of you still waiting to snag a PS5, keep your chin up. A restock happened for retailers this past Monday, so more are expected this summer.

For anyone lucky enough to have gotten their hands on a console, it’s time to decide what to play. PlayStation & Xbox share some fantastic games & franchises, but it’s the exclusive titles that really set the consoles apart from each other. Here’s a list of the PS5 exclusive games you need to take a look at today.

Astro’s Playroom

Astro’s Playroom comes pre-installed on every PS5, but don’t let that discourage you from taking a look at the game. It was developed by Japan Studio’s Asobi Team and is the sequel to their PSVR game Astro Bot Rescue Mission, which is the highest rated VR game of all time according to Metacritic. The new game was also designed to function as a tech demo for the Ps5’s DualSense controller and its many new features.

Astro’s Playroom is a 3D platformer where players navigate a world that takes them through the history of the PlayStation console. Japan Studio turned what could easily have been a gimmicky demo into a genuinely engaging video game. IGN and GameSpot both gave the game an 8/10 score in their reviews. It’s already on your PS5, so why not check it out?

Demon’s Souls

Demon’s Souls is a PS3 exclusive that has been remastered for the PS5 by Bluepoint Games. The game, which was developed by FromSoftware, was originally released in Japan in early 2009. Sony held back the release of Demon’s Souls in North America out of concerns that the game’s difficulty would turn people away. Instead, the brutal challenges in Demon’s Souls made it an instant classic.

Demon’s Souls inspired four sequels and more-or-less created an entire genre of “Soulslike” games. It is an action roleplaying game with a heavy emphasis on demanding combat. You can expect to die over & over again while playing Demon’s Souls, but it offers a feeling of accomplishment unlike any other game. The PS5 exclusive remake is gorgeous in every way. Don’t miss it!

Returnal

If you want the most polished PS5 exclusive experience, look no further than Returnal. Housemarque developed this third-person roguelike shooter for Sony Interactive Entertainment, who published the game on April 30th, 2021. The game has received glowing reviews, with critics praising its unsettling atmosphere and challenging gameplay.

Returnal follows the story of Selene, an astronaut who crash lands on the planet Atropos. Selene becomes trapped in a time loop, and when the alien creatures of Atropos kill her, she wakes up in her crashed ship. Players use a variety of weapons to battle their way through the aliens and free Selene from the loops.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man

Developed on both the PS4 & PS5, Miles Morales: Spider-Man is the sequel to the PlayStation exclusive game Marvel’s Spider-Man. Miles Morales makes some big improvements on the previous game’s already fantastic graphics and combat mechanics. The game received rave reviews from critics & players.

The Spider-Man sequel follows titular character Miles Morales as he adjusts to his powers and new life as a superhero. The game has all the epic fights, cool collectibles, and open world exploration you’d expect from a great Spider-Man game. The main campaign isn’t quite as long as the first game’s, but that’s no reason to skip out on this thrilling superhero game.
