It's #BiVisibilityDay! Learn about the meaning of bisexual and why this day is important to celebrate.

#BiVisibilityDay: What’s the meaning of bisexual?

In 2021, more people than ever are educating themselves on the LGBTQ community. The meaning of bisexuality is something people ask about & ponder on all the time. To claim bisexuality means you’re sexually attracted to both men & women. If you’re bisexual, you’re not exclusively attracted to males or exclusively attracted to females.

You’re biologically attracted to both. In order to celebrate #BiVisibilityDay, it’s important to explore what it really means to be bisexual, consider celebrities across the board who’ve come out as bisexual, and ensure the fact that bisexual individuals don’t feel as though their sexuality isn’t taken as seriously as it should be.

The truth about #BiVisibilityDay

When people explore the meaning of bisexual, they understand the regular issues bisexual people continue to face on a daily basis. This is one part of the LGBTQ community that is often forgotten & erased. Bisexual people have expressed that when they come out of the closet, they aren’t always taken seriously since they have the ability to still partake in a heterosexual relationship if they so choose.

A day like #BiVisibilityDay helps us celebrate the B in LGBTQ instead of placing it on the back burner. The B in LGBTQ is just as important as everything else and deserves more awareness to be raised. On Twitter, bisexual individuals have been posting to celebrate who they are and how they sexually identify themselves

Unfortunately, bisexual individuals are often told things like “you’re just confused” or “it’s just a phase” when in reality, those who are by naturally recognize the fluid nature of attraction and that doesn’t mean it’s something that will only temporarily be part of their way of life. Telling bisexual people that they’re simply just confused is intensely insulting.

Bisexual celebrities

Several celebrities have come out as bisexual in the past and they are openly proud to be who they are. These celebrities are comfortable in their skin & comfortable knowing they have the freedom to love whoever they want to love. Some of these celebrities include Kristen Stewart, Michelle Rodriguez, Drew Barrymore, Bella Thorne, Josh Hutcherson, and Amber Heard.

Frank Ocean, Ezra Miller, Angelina Jolie, and Lady Gaga all identify as bisexual. Megan Fox is also part of this list and she’s openly spoken out about her feelings. She told Esquire, “I think people are born bisexual and then make some conscious choices based on the pressures of society. I have no question in my mind about being bisexual.”

Amber Rose also addressed questions about her sexuality in an interview with After Ellen saying, “I’m extremely open with my sexuality. I can be in love with a woman, I can be in love with a man.” Nothing can get in the way of true love for these celebrities, or anyone in the world who identifies as bisexual.

How to stop bisexuality erasure

Since bisexuality isn’t always taken as seriously as it should be, it’s an important subject to discuss. The erasure of bisexuality threatens the mental health & happiness of people who genuinely consider themselves to be bisexual which means the erasure of this orientation needs to be put to an end immediately. According to Health, 5.1% of millennials and 11.5% of Gen Z adults have reported that they are bisexual!

The numbers are continuing to increase which means they shouldn’t be played down or ignored for another second further. Bisexual erasure can happen anywhere at any time and it is always damaging. The way this issue can come to an end is if more people become more understanding about what it means to be a bisexual individual who has the natural & fluid desire to be attracted to both men & women.
