Will Cameron Boyce’s final movie ‘Runt’ honor his legacy?

The late Cameron Boyce is featured in the upcoming film Runt, which will also be the last movie role from the actor. The new film by 1091 Pictures is a teen thriller that focuses on the fear & helplessness of school bullying victims.

Cameron Boyce was not only an actor but also a trained dancer with numerous choreography credits. As well as a dancer & actor, Cameron Boyce was a philanthropist and raised money for multiple charities before his untimely death. Runt, Cameron Boyce’s final movie

Runt, directed & co-written by William Coakley, centers on a group of misguided high school seniors who are pulled into a downward cycle of violence when the adults in their lives simply stand by. Boyce portrays Cal, a quiet teen who after standing up for himself, finds his life spiraling out of control. 

Showings of Runt will open in New York & Los Angeles theaters on October 1st. The movie will then be available on video-on-demand beginning October 19th. The movie first premiered at the 2020 Mammoth Film Festival. 

The sinister teen drama also stars Tichina Arnold, Nicole Elizabeth Berger, Aramis Knight, Brianna Hildebrand, Cyrus Arnold, Jason Patric, and Charlie Gillespie. The movie is William Coakley’s directorial debut.

Cameron Boyce in The Descendants and more

Cameron Boyce is best known for his work in the Disney Channel films The Descendants and the series Jessie. Since his death in 2019, he has appeared posthumously in Descendants 3, the limited series Mrs. Fletcher, and most recently the musical drama Paradise City.

In April 2019, Cameron Boyce performed in the music video for Hozier’s “Almost (Sweet Music)”. Boyce choreographed the video’s dance with dancer Christine Flores, who appeared in the video alongside him.

On July 6th, 2019, Boyce was found dead at twenty years old in his Los Angeles home. According to a statement from his family, he passed away in his sleep “due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated.” 

On July 9th, 2019, Boyce’s family confirmed he died due to an epileptic seizure. Cameron Boyce had previously been diagnosed with epilepsy, which was unknown to many. His body was cremated and his ashes were returned to his family.

 

The Cameron Boyce Foundation

After his death in 2019, The Cameron Boyce Foundation, a nonprofit organization, was founded in Los Angeles through Network for Good that gives young people artistic and creative outlets as alternatives to violence & negativity. The foundation emphasizes the use of resources & philanthropy for positive change in the world.

On July 25th, 2019, the foundation revealed that the first project to be carried out was Wielding Peace, which officially launched on August 16th, 2019. The foundation later donated $8,000 to Thirst Project to build a well in Uganda.

Thirst Project is a charity Boyce had supported prior to his death. In 2017, within forty days, Cameron Boyce helped raise over $27,000 for the clean water initiative. In September 2019, Thirst Project changed the name of the Pioneering Spirit Award to the Cameron Boyce Pioneering Spirit Award, to honor his work with the organization.

The young actor also supported the United Way of America’s initiative to end homelessness. In 2015, he raised money for the charity’ HomeWalk and would continue to fundraise for the project until he passed away. In May 2019, he joined in the opening ceremony of the 12th annual HomeWalk in downtown Los Angeles which was one of the largest public events to end homelessness in the U.S.
