As 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' ratings continue dropping, we’ve started to look back at some of the most awkward interviews. Is Ellen mean? Let's find out.

All the celebrities who think Ellen DeGeneres was mean on her show

Ellen DeGeneres has been receiving bad press recently due to a series of allegations against her. The accusations started with criticism from celebrities who had a bad experience with the talk show host. Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett kicked off the revelations when he claimed DeGeneres’s mistreatment is “common knowledge”.

While other celebrities have joined Garrett in speaking out against DeGeneres’s behavior, the most important accusations come from crew members of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Former employees and current staff told their stories anonymously, explaining how DeGeneres created an unusually difficult workplace environment.

As The Ellen DeGeneres Show ratings continue dropping, we look back at some of the most awkward interviews from the show. Even though Ellen’s talk show has been perceived as funny & light-hearted, some of the interviews bothered the guests – and it shows. Here are some examples.

Jodie Comer

The British actress Jodie Comer is mostly known for her role in Killing Eve. Ellen decided to talk about a role in the series Doctor Foster, Kate Parks, who’s also British. Unfortunately, DeGeneres decided to commend her for her “American accent”. Jodie Comer was able to laugh it off but she did say “didn’t do a good job there”.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s love life has been widely publicized. As fans & paparazzi began noticing her hectic personal life, some made fun of her for having many partners and singing about them. Ellen DeGeneres thought it would be a good idea to talk about her numerous relationships in one of their interviews. Ellen proposed a game in which celebrities would be displayed on a screen and Swift would reveal if they had ever dated.

We don’t know what’s worse: Ellen’s game or the fact that she didn’t stop after noticing Taylor was definitely distressed. The singer insisted that she didn’t want to play but Ellen pushed her until Taylor was on the verge of tears – definitely awkward.

Still not had enough of Ellen and her awkward interview techniques? Here’s our article exposing even more cringeworthy interviews.

Hasan Minhaj

When Hasan Minhaj appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’s show in 2019, Ellen continuously mispronounced his name. Finally, he’d had it and made a point to correct her. When Ellen pointed out that everyone pronounced his name as she did, he remarked that “there’s an actor walking around called Ansel Elgort and we just pronounce his name right.”

Ellen DeGeneres’s perceived microaggression against Hasan Minhaj reflects staff complaints about racism on set. From comments on box braids to calling employees who spoke up “the PC police”, management apparently didn’t live up to Ellen’s mission of kindness & inclusivity.

Celine Dion

Ellen may subtly insult her guests, but going after their children? Ellen brought up a photo of Celine Dion’s son, commenting: “Look at him. He is beautiful, but look at his hair. When are you going to cut that hair?”

Celine clapped back: “Some people shave the head of their children, and people say, ‘Oh, isn’t that terrible?’”

“I don’t even cut my son’s hair and they say, ‘Oh my god, when is she going to cut her son’s hair?’ You know? Whatever I will do, I won’t please everyone.” Has no one told you, Ellen? If you have nothing nice to say . . . don’t say anything at all.

Ellen DeGeneres may be mean . . . oh, you expected more? Let’s dive deeper and explore Ellen’s history from sweetheart to scandal.

Mariah Carey

Celebrities try to keep their private lives private. Even Ellen should know this. However, this didn’t stop Ellen DeGeneres from taking things too far. Mariah Carey was concealing the fact she was pregnant in 2008.

Ellen kept pushing and pushing Mariah to answer. Mariah Carey responded with, “I can’t believe you did this to me, Ellen. This is peer pressure.” Ellen DeGeneres kept trying to get a pregnancy announcement until Mariah eventually caved and stated “It’s too early” for a drink.

Mariah tragically suffered a miscarriage weeks later. Fans have come forward claiming Ellen forced Mariah to confirm pregnancy before she was ready.

Nicole Kidman

Everyone remembers the hilarious Nicole Kidman clap from the 2017 Oscars. Ellen brings it up in a downright cringeworthy interview with Kidman herself by coming right out and mentioning the awkward clapping. Kidman immediately became defensive. “You borrow these expensive jewels, and I’m like, ‘I must not damage these diamonds! Cause I have to give them back at midnight!’ And so I’m like, clapping.”

The interview was utterly cringey from start to finish. Who doesn’t want to relive an awkward moment in their life? Oh yeah, everyone!

Many celebrities have encountered awkward moments on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – but that doesn’t mean Ellen has no friends. Let’s take a look at celebrities coming to defend Ellen.

  • Don’t forget all of the times Ellen had an associate jump out of the box besides the couch to scare the sh-t out of a guest. Ellen chuckled at their discomfort. But Not Funny. Is that how you treat a guest?

  • I always got bad vibes from her, and I have never been a fan of the show or Ellen, but this article is extremely nit picky. The writer must have considered her a saint before to cherry pick like this.

    • Our world needs to calm down a bit. I too am not a big fan of Ellen, however, it appears that every word Ellen has ever spoken is now being dissected for any traces of human flaw. No one would pass this ‘perfection’ test. There’s a balance of reasoning needed to be fair.

  • It’s like a funeral that turns into an AA meeting. But instead of talking about how alcohol ruined their life, everybody mentions Ellen.

    August 8, 2020
  • Wow! Is this all you got? Being a tad picky about how things happen on the show. Perhaps it is the celebrities fault about being on her show that needs to be cross examined.

    • I believe Ellen is being set up!

  • Ellen is actually two midgets in a suit

    August 9, 2020
    • The word midget is offensive to people of restricted growth. If you can’t co.e up with anything better than that, say nothing

      August 10, 2020
  • Ellen reminds me of Ronald McDonald

    August 9, 2020
  • I was always neutral about Ellen until she started her game show, my husband loved it and I don’t. I think it is a cruel joke on everyone and she’s in seventh heaven sitting on her throne exacting pain , punishment and insults to all the participants. Hope they all get paid for it. Sadistic show!

  • I have always somehow disliked Ellen… her goody too shoes and too good to be true persona never worked its charm on me.. so good they finally saw for the saint she is not.

    August 9, 2020
  • We stopped watching Ellen when she was so l hypocritical and jioned the ME TOO movement when she committed sexual harrasment on her show quite regularly ..always having half naked guys putting their junk right in womens faces and always asking people like Ryan Goslen,Mark Walburg and many many others to take their shirts off, shes a creepy blow hard and can shove her stupid products and her BE KIND To One Another right up her ass

  • Ellen is a clown under life’s big top circus tent. She’s watched by millions. It seems that all we needed was a little extra free time collectively to find every actor/actress or talk show hosts personality flaws. We ALL fall short. I don’t watch Ellen because I don’t care for her humor but not everyone is going to like Eddie Murphy or George Lopez. Make no mistake,Ellen IS a comedian first and foremost. So really, who’s the clown?

    August 9, 2020
  • Whoever that is going on a live television show knows that they have directly or indirectly signed up for whatever happens there. Nobody should fault Ellen for whatever happens in her show.

    August 10, 2020
  • Ellen did not push or force anyone in a mean way. That is called comedy. We all laughed with them. Why are people being so sensitive all of a sudden? Leave Ellen alone. She’s a great person who has helped many. Comedians that make fun of famous people are not bad peoples. That’s their job. Ya BASTA!!! Ellen, if you are reading this. Please know that we love you abs we are in your side. Cuídate mucho y saludos desde Laredo Texas

  • I Never Ever have or will watch Ellen. She is embarrassing as a celebrity

    August 10, 2020
  • Ellen. Is. A phony. …..the way she treats people is terrible. She should go volunteer at a soup kitchen and see how many people can’t afford food. She needs to learn humility. And how blessed she really. Is. Stop being a ride bitch!!!!!!!

    August 10, 2020
  • Ellen I think you are the best all the things that you give you your guests, the 12 days of Christmas, helping people with their bills whatever they need, giving away cars. and of course nobody’s talking about any of this stuff just how all you were inappropriate and hey who is it inappropriate. Now having said that Ellen you are the best too bad people don’t see that they’re just blinded by what they want to see. Good luck in the future Ellen not that you need it.

  • Buddy of George W. Bush, the war criminal, did it for me. Ellen can f*** right off.

    August 10, 2020
  • I liked her very much. Her show gives us hope and happiness. Every person has its dark shadow and she is not a saint nor perfect at all. So stop throwing bad things against her. We all commit mistakes and we are not perfect. I truly Believe in her humanitarian cause and she is a very sincere person. If you don’t like her and so be it. Be kind to one another and thats all matter.
