Leeds rentals, the big question about cooking your own food

Apart from homestay families, most students living in halls of residence and leeds student accommodation choose to cook their own meals, after all, not to mention the cost, eating Western food every day is not enough to satisfy your Chinese stomach. For those of you living in Leeds, if you want to cook your own meals, you need to know about these things in advance.

Cooking together is warm and affordable

The most affordable and delicious way to cook for yourself is, of course, to cook for yourself. For less than £100 a month, you can eat comfortably. However, there is a lot to learn about cooking for yourself in a foreign country.

If you live in a British home and want to cook, make sure you make it clear before you sign the rental agreement. Some Brits don’t like fumes, so they will forbid you to fry. Living on campus is a little better. Student flats in the UK are usually shared by several people, each with their own bedroom and shared kitchen, student accommodation in Leeds and toilet.

Foreign students don’t usually cook much, which gives the Chinese plenty of time to fry and stir-fry, and don’t forget to clean up the kitchen at the end. It is important to note that British kitchens generally do not have cooker hoods, and even if they do, they do not have much suction power, while the fire detection system is very sensitive, so you must pay attention to ventilation when cooking. Otherwise, it will be embarrassing when the fireman comes and asks you to sign off.

Supermarkets in the UK are dotted around the streets and are relatively large, stocking everything from everyday items to food. However, due to the generally high prices here, supermarkets are not very cheap either. Some of the most common vegetables are tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and lettuce.

When you come to the UK, it is best to adapt to the food environment here as soon as possible and develop a style of eating that suits your tastes. There are many Indian and Italian style foods and condiments available in British supermarkets, which are relatively closer to Chinese tastes and are more reasonably priced. For example, a large bag of spaghetti is about £2 with an Indian curry sauce for less than £1 a bottle, which is a kind of Western-style frittata.

As well as supermarkets, look for open-air food markets around your home, where vegetables and fruit are usually about 10% lower than in supermarkets.

The worst part of cooking for one person is that cooking too much is not enough to eat and cooking too little is not nutritious enough. This is where it is more economical to have a few people to share a meal with. Each person is responsible for one or two days a week, which saves money and time, and helps to eliminate the feeling of loneliness.
