Well, not retirement but more like an extended vacation. See why Ryan Reynolds decided to take a break from acting and how Twitter is reacting to the news.

How is Twitter reacting to Ryan Reynolds’s retirement?

Ryan Reynolds is one of the most famous actors of this generation. He’s played characters in plenty of his movies, from Deadpool to Turbo, and is a celebrity known all across the world.

However, the man has recently announced he’s taking a break from acting. Twitter just about exploded at the news that Ryan Reynolds wouldn’t be playing roles anymore. Heck, we’re pretty shocked, too!

Who is Ryan Reynolds, and why is he leaving acting? Let’s go over it together.

Ryan Reynolds 101

For those unaware of the man, Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian actor who got his start in the early 1990s, in the show Hillside. Yet, his big break didn’t come until 1998, when he got the lead role in Two Guys and a Girl, a sitcom that ran until 2001.

From there, his career caught on, and he went on to star in a variety of movies. In the territory of live-action, he’s probably best known for Deadpool & Deadpool 2, two megahit movies. In terms of voice acting, he’s been in The Croods & Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Our favorite Ryan Reynolds movie has to be the objectively terrible Green Lantern, though—it’s truly a marvel to behold.

Back to the main topic. The man has gone on to play hit role after hit role, and most recently, he starred in Free Guy. Ryan Reynolds is also starring in the upcoming Apple+ Christmas film, Spirited—and that brings us to the Twitter explosion.

Reynolds announces his sabbatical

On October 17th, 2021, Ryan Reynolds announced his break from acting—not on Twitter, but on Instagram. Posting a picture of himself & Will Ferrell, along with a few behind-the-scenes shots of him and the crew, he said the following:

“That’s a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer. . . Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators & artists.”

He added, “These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both.”

There you have it. We don’t know how long Ryan Reynolds’s break from acting will be, but from how much he says he’s going to miss it, his sabbatical will probably be a decent chunk of time at least.

That’s how Ryan Reynolds announced his time off. Twitter was quick to react. However, before we get to that, we have to ask: why is Reynolds doing this?

Why Reynolds is stopping acting

What has gotten over Reynolds? Why is he stopping his career at the height of his fame?

Well, according to a screenshot obtained by Film Updates on Twitter, Reynolds further clarified his sabbatical by screenshotting the definition on Google. We can’t find it on his Instagram, so we assume it has since been deleted.

The definition of a sabbatical can take two months to a year, with an average of six months. When he got to the reasons for a sabbatical, Reynolds crossed out the definition and wrote “parent” on the side.

Reynolds wants to be there for his kids—that makes a lot of sense. Between his ownership of multiple companies & his acting career, it’s admirable for the man to want to help his children grow up.

However, Twitter had a lot of opinions about Ryan Reynold’s break. Let’s explore that.

Twitter reacts

The internet was shocked to hear Reynolds would be taking a sabbatical, and the news spread across Twitter. People were quick to state their opinions.

User @AndrewGeczy stated, “But he still needs to make a deadpool 3 & free guy 2. How long is his break going to be? A couple months? I think most actors just take those without saying anything, with a backlog of upcoming products to make it so we don’t even notice.”

@BelricLongleaf had a different opinion: “[Reynolds] needs it. We need it. He’s done a great job but needs to stay away for a little while.”

Finally, @Andrew_Barker10 reminded us all, “[W]ell he does have a soccer club to run[.]” Not to mention kids to parent.

Reynolds is going to be out of the acting business for a while. We wish him the best as he helps parent his children, and hope he has a restful time. What are your thoughts on Ryan Reynolds’s break? Are you a fan of the actor? Let us know in the comments!
