Marco Colao’s Acting Odyssey: From Complex Characters to International Adventures

Marco Colao: Thank you for having me. I’m excited to share my experiences with you.

Interviewer: One of your early roles that garnered significant attention was Vincenzo Paduano in the television series “Terzo indizio” (Third Clue). Can you tell us about the challenges of portraying a complex and negative character like Vincenzo?

Marco Colao: Absolutely. Playing Vincenzo Paduano was a challenging yet rewarding experience. When it comes to negative characters, it’s essential not to judge them but to understand their motivations and actions deeply. That’s the key to creating a compelling and nuanced performance. I wanted to avoid the cliché of a one-dimensional villain who does bad things just for the sake of it. Instead, I aimed to bring authenticity to the character.

Interviewer: Your portrayal of Vincenzo Paduano certainly resonated with the Italian audience. What do you think made your performance so compelling?

Marco Colao: I believe it was the commitment and passion I brought to the role. I didn’t shy away from the character’s darker aspects, which allowed me to deliver a magnetic, complex, and unexpected performance. Audiences were captivated because they could relate to the authenticity of the character’s journey.

Interviewer: After “Il Paradiso delle Signore,” where you played Valerio Todini, you took on the role of Luigi Lucchesi in another Italian TV series. Can you share with us how you approached the character of Luigi, who undergoes a significant transformation?

Marco Colao: Luigi Lucchesi was a fascinating character to portray. He starts as a young man overwhelmed by his father’s love and adoration, which eventually leads to resentment and rebellion. To bring Luigi to life, I drew inspiration from iconic Italian cinema villains and aimed to create a character that went beyond stereotypes. Luigi was someone the audience could empathize with, as they discovered the reasons behind his actions and the trauma that shaped him.

Interviewer: Your ability to portray complex emotions and characters is truly impressive. Now, let’s talk about your role in Laura Pausini’s music video. What was it like working with her, and how did that experience impact your career?

Marco Colao: Working with Laura Pausini was a tremendous honor and inspiration. She brought an incredible energy and motivation to the set, which fueled our performances. The music video allowed me to showcase my talent on a global scale, and I received numerous collaboration requests from Italian artists afterward. It was a turning point in my career, and it opened doors to international projects.

Interviewer: Speaking of international recognition, you’ve also appeared in advertisements for brands like Barilla and Moretti beer. Can you tell us about your unexpected success in Eastern European countries and how it has influenced your career?

Marco Colao: It was indeed unexpected how well the advertisements were received in the Balkan countries. This unexpected success provided me with exciting opportunities to expand my work prospects in those regions and collaborate with both national and international artists, such as Nedeljco Bajic. It’s been a fantastic journey.

Interviewer: Lastly, tell us about your upcoming international projects, especially the film “Dark Desert Highway.” What can you share about your role and the film’s themes?

Marco Colao: “Dark Desert Highway” is an exciting project where I play an adventurer searching for himself while grappling with a troubled family history. The film explores themes of generational conflict and self-discovery through action and struggle. It’s an opportunity for me to showcase my talent on the international stage, and I’m eager to see how my character’s outlook evolves throughout the story.
