‘The Mandalorian’ season 2: All the info on Timothy Olyphant and more

Disney+ took the Star Wars community by storm when it released The Mandalorian in the fall of 2019. The Mandalorian shied away from the big names of the Star Wars universe. Instead, it focused on obscure side characters, proving they could make us fall in love with almost anyone.

Not only does The Mandalorian bring an entirely new cast of characters (which almost never happens in Star Wars productions), it also brings an entirely new genre to the iconic Star Wars universe: the Western.

To no one’s surprise, the massive success of The Mandalorian’s first season warranted a second season. But this time, we might just see a few familiar characters played by fan-favorite actors, such as Timothy Olyphant, famous for his roles in Justified & Deadwood.

Olyphant’s role in The Mandalorian

Although it’s confirmed Olyphant will be in season 2, Disney & LucasFilm have both kept their mouths sealed tight on his role. There have been reports suggesting Timothy Olyphant may wear Boba Fett’s iconic green armor, however.

This doesn’t mean Timothy Olyphant will be playing the iconic clone, Boba Fett. In fact, ComicBook.com confirmed Temuera Morrison will be in The Mandalorian season 2 playing Boba. Seeing as he played Boba’s father-by-cloning in Attack of the Clones, Morrison will be familiar with the role.

How will Boba Fett make an appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 after his death in Return of The Jedi? We don’t know, but odds are Boba Fett will appear in flashbacks explaining how Timothy Olyphant’s character came into possession of Boba’s iconic armor.

This still leaves one mystery unsolved: who exactly will Timothy Olyphant’s Boba Fett armor-wearing character be?

Cobb Vanth

Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars Aftermath novel series takes place directly after the fall of the empire in Return of The Jedi, focusing on the aftermath of the galactic civil war. Self-appointed Tatooine sheriff Cobb Vant comes into possession of Boba Fett’s armor after a group of Jawas finds it beside a Sarlacc pit.

Although many Star Wars comics, games, and books have been de-canonized by Disney, Aftermath is still canon. Therefore it’s not only possible but likely that Timothy Olyphant could play Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian season 2.

This town ain’t big enough for all these characters

Nearly a dozen pre-existing fan-favorite characters are either rumored or confirmed to make an appearance in The Mandalorian S2. Our only concern is that filling this standalone side story with iconic characters like Rex, Ashoka, Boba Fett, Canan, and more could taint what made The Mandalorian so memorable: lack of connection to the Skywalker family.

We all love huge-budget crossover events like Avengers: Endgame. That’s never what The Mandalorian was meant to be. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely the team behind The Mandalorian will let us down. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
