Was a young Aaron Carter sexually assaulted by his own sister?

Death is definitely a hard topic to process, but when it comes to young departures it might get even more complex. Last Saturday, November 5th, singer Aaron Carter was found dead in his bathtub at age of 34. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported to CNN they attended to a call for help at Aaron Carter’s home in Lancaster, California in the morning.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating all parties involved. Aaron Carter had a particularly troubled life. Figures like Britney Spears, Amanda Bynes, and Lindsay Lohan had made it clear that growing under the spotlight is pure hell. Yet, Carter’s mental health issues, go way further than his fame or his brother’s,  Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys.

Aaron Carter was always wholly transparent and shared through his Twitter account, where he communicated with his audience about his mental health issues. Carter also went out of the closet as bisexual through Twitter in 2017 and signaled the sexual abuse he suffered when he was young in hands of his late sister Leslie Carter. Might Carter’s death be a motive to discuss mental health and child sexual abuse?

Was young Aaron Carter raped?

The singer published a series of tweets in 2019 describing the way he was sexually abused by his sister Leslie when they were younger. He also mentioned his brother Nick had abusive behaviors too. According to the information provided by Carter, Leslie sexually abused him from age ten to thirteen when she wasn’t on her medications.

According to Carter, Leslie suffered from bipolar disorder and used to treat it with lithium, yet, when she was off the meds, she did things she never meant to. At least Aaron Carter was aware of the role Leslie’s mental health had in the whole situation, yet it doesn’t make it less painful. However, Carter suffered sexual abuse before since he was only eight years old, and his two backup dancers were responsible for this.

It’s unbelievable how unspoken young sexual abuse is, yet it makes all the sense in the world. If it’s hard for an adult woman to be loud about a sexual abuse experience, for a child it’s even harder, since they aren’t even aware of what’s going on. At the same time, teaching kids to follow orders and not to develop a conscious criterion can make children think they have no right to decide.

Getting young sexual abuse statistics is often hard because several cases aren’t reported due to the complexity of the situation. However, the national center for Victims of Crime has reported one in five girls and one in twenty boys is a victim of child sexual abuse. Also, The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reported that 9.2% of victimized children were sexually assaulted in 2010.

This is undesirable for anyone, yet, let’s hope Carter’s mediatic fuss around his death is useful to point out the urgency to attend child sexual abuse. It’s maddening how several victims have to sleep under the same roof as their aggressor.

Aaron Carter’s mental health

In the same year Carter tweeted about the sexual abuse he went through as a child in 2019, the singer opened up his heart on an episode of The Doctors. Carter talked about his battle with his mental health. Unfortunately, the singer struggled with multiple personality disorders, schizophrenia, acute anxiety, and manic depression.

Besides his mental health situations, Carter presented several issues around substance abuse and lived in constant fear of entering into a conservatorship. Hopefully, the singer’s death can be legally solved soon and all the difficult situations he struggled with and came to light can set a different pad for new generations.
