How did Justin Hartley increase his net worth in 2020?
Justin Hartley has been front-and-center in the news for a while now: first with a very public split from his wife, Chrishell Stause, and now, with some big spending. Was 2020 a good year for Hartley financially speaking? Let’s take a look.
Justin Hartley: big spender?
Tonight, Celebrity IOU is premiering a brand-new episode which shows Justin Hartley surprising his friend, Mat, with a new home renovation. Hartley explained his reasoning behind the big gift, stating that he and Mat had been friends for over 10 years.
Hartley also explained that Mat just poured almost all of his savings into a new fixer-upper, and didn’t have much money left to spend on polishing up the exterior. So, Hartley gifted his friend with a resurfaced pool, hot tub, a grill and pizza oven. (Where can we sign up for a new BFF like Hartley?)
A friendship that knows no limits
Hartley explained that Mat had seen him through the best and worst of times. “Mat is one of those human beings that will celebrate the good times with you and celebrate when you’re happy and celebrate when great things happen to you,” he said.
“But the true measure of the man is,” he continued, “when things aren’t going your way, he’s the guy that’s going to make sure that you’re not alone or that you remember who you are. When you have people like that in your life, it makes it easier to stay on track.
Indeed, Hartley has seen some rough times in his life. After two years of marriage to Selling Sunset’s Chrishell Stause, Hartley requested a divorce. Over text. The drama, in all of its tears and its glory, made a very public appearance on Selling Sunset season 3.
Did the money get to Hartley’s head?
Some people – including Stause herself – suggest that a newfound fame and increase in net worth could have been to blame for the sudden split. “It just sucks,” she explained, “because I feel like outer elements have reared their ugly head and inserted themselves into our relationship. It’s not normal to meet somebody and then they become wildly famous or they become wildly rich or all these things.”
Many fans have openly expressed their anger with Hartley for treating Stause the way he did. But, Hartley recently appeared on Radio Andy, and explained that, despite all of the drama, he is happy with his life. “I’m really happy with where I am,” he said. “I’m happy with my career, I’m happy with my personal life, I’m healthy, I’m safe – I’m all of those things. I’m very thankful.”
He also stated that he didn’t mind that there is so much gossip circulating about him because people are “getting entertainment from that.”
How did Hartley make his money?
Hartley got his first taste of the spotlight in 2002, and subsequently worked on soap operas like Passions and The Young and The Restless. His big break, however, was in 2016, when he appeared on the beloved family drama This Is Us.
According to Express, Hartley was earning $125,000 per episode of This Is Us. And, if you do the math, that equals a whopping $4.5 million in the last season. Knowing this, it makes sense that Hartley and Stause were able to buy a $4.65 million house in California.

As of now, it seems like Justin Hartley and Chrishell Stause have parted ways and are happy living their separate lives. And if Hartley wants to use his huge net worth to have some more fun, we’re not opposed – as long as he doesn’t dump someone else over text!
