Earpers unite! Vote for ‘Wynonna Earp’ in the Bingewatch Awards
The time has come: our Bingewatch Awards are underway! The awards, dedicated to recognizing the best U.S. streaming platforms and shows to bingewatch, provide complete data, metrics, and geographic information on the shows that fandom families love. The awards are ongoing throughout August, and we’re highlighting different nominees for you to pick and choose your favorites.
Obviously Syfy’s Wynonna Earp, developed by Emily Andras and based on the comic book series by Beau Smith, has a special place on this list, because we love leading ladies who punch.
Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) is the great-great-granddaughter of the lawman Wyatt Earp and has to fight reincarnated entities and outlaws in the cursed Ghost River Triangle with a magic gun.
Helping her on her quest is a deliciously motley cast of outlaws and law enforcement. It’s like Scooby Doo, if Fred were a gun-toting, hard-drinking lady and the disenfranchised group facing down actual demons in a literal ghost town. (No pulling the hood off a demon to find it was the naughty barkeep all along in Wynonna Earp!)

Wynonna Earp gets to the point in the first five minutes
We love a good, drawn-out plot as much as the next group, but there is something to be said for a massive plot dump to introduce the characters, setting, and world as quickly as possible.
In the first five minutes of Wynonna, there’s a funeral, an abduction, and the prodigal return of the lead character to take her rightful place in the family business. As viewers, we’re immediately clued in to Wynonna’s backstory, her complicated relationship with her family, and the family curse tormenting them for decades.
We also get a setup for the mysteries of the season to come, including the introduction of Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon) and the recruitment of Wynonna from Black Badge Agent Xavier Dolls (Shamier Anderson).
Wynonna Earp blesses us with positive queer content
As Sarah succinctly put it:“We have arrived at a very influential time for queer representation in today’s television and I am here for it!
“Having been let down with past shows I am always hesitant to delve deep into my admiration for LGBTQI characters but Waverly Earp (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) and Nicole Haught’s (Katherine Barrell) unfolding relationship does not disappoint. Their connection not only gives hope for all of us at home, but it breathes a big sigh of relief as well.”
Yes there are demons, but Wynonna Earp also knows how to have fun
Nadine commented on the humor of Wynonna and company.
“The humor in this show is amazing. I mean, the words they come up with sometimes are just hilarious. Wynonna is literally the best at nicknames and funny words. Although my absolute favorite word to use came from Waverly. I literally say “Fudgenuggets” whenever something goes wrong. Is it in the elevator or on my motorcycle, it’s the first thing popping in my head.”
The cast is amazing
Nadine also addressed the impact the cast has had in helping to grow the fan base. “It helps so many people to get through hard times and the cast is so amazing with their fans. They interact with us and show us that they are not better than us, they are so down to earth which makes them and the show even more unique and special.”
“In the past years, there have been so many amazing TV series that have been cancelled due to bad marketing or money issues but Wynonna Earp cannot be one of them because this show touches so many hearts and we just need more seasons of it!”
The relationship between Wynonna and Waverly is a cornerstone of Wynonna Earp
Frequently, familial relationships are ignored over romantic ones. Wynonna Earp is different – Mads added:
“The relationship between the Earp sisters (Wynonna and Waverly) is relatable to me as the youngest of four siblings. My sister and I are as different as night and day and seeing the relationship between the Earp sisters gave me a new appreciation for my own sister, despite our differences. I have also never related to a character as much as I do to Waverly Earp and it’s a blessing to be able to identify with characters in this way.”
