Barcelona Vs Real Madrid – Who is Better?

El Clasico took place for the 249th competitive time at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on March 20, 2022. Additionally, these teams met 34 times for friendly and other non-competitive matches since then.

Real Madrid have won an impressive run in La Liga over their history, while Barca have managed to collect more trophies overall, such as winning more Copa del Rey titles.

Xavi

Barcelona have proven to be one of the scoring leaders in LaLiga this season, boasting an attack anchored by young talent like Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham as well as veteran veterans like Javier Mascherano.

In their midfield they possess a trio of Masia alumni led by Xavi and Sergio Busquets; though Madrid have three great midfield players themselves in Benzema, Alonso, and Khedira for midfield, Barcelona have them beat with regards to technical ability.

Iniesta

At last March’s competitive Clasico, both sides met for 249th time – plus another 33 times in friendly fixtures or other non-competitive matches.

Both teams have amassed an impressive array of trophies since the modern era began, but Barca stands out with their record in European club football; having made more UEFA Champions League final appearances than any other club, their list of achievements includes six European Super Cup triumphs to date.

Messi

Football is a sport renowned for great rivalries, none larger than that between Barcelona and Real Madrid. This year marks their 253rd Clasico competitive matchup (plus 34 additional exhibition games).

While Madrid boasts talented midfielders like Xavi, Busquets and Iniesta, Barca’s four-member midfield quartet is superior when it comes to controlling games.

Busquets

Barcelona are more consistent in Europe under Guardiola, having won two trebles consecutively and 19 European trophies (five European Cups, four Champions Leagues, three Cup Winners’ Cups, five UEFA Cups, three Fairs Cups and 2 Latin Cups). But Real Madrid still remain ahead in terms of overall trophy count.

Real Madrid have had an up and down season, scoring several goals but failing to match expectations at times.

Benzema

Benzema holds an incredible 62 goal tally against Barcelona rivals, making him the leading scorer of El Clasico matches and also scoring against AC Milan preseason friendlies alongside new arrival Jude Bellingham.

Messi and Ronaldo share 12 Ballon d’Or awards each. Ronaldo looks set to lead Los Blancos forward this season.

Luis Suarez

Barcelona may feel bereft after losing Xavi, yet their next-tier options have more than made up for any shortcomings in midfield.

Frenkie de Jong and Gundogan have excelled at playing as defensive pivots, while Oriol Romeu and Gavi can fill any hybrid positions that arise if necessary.

Real Madrid boasts two top midfielders in Toni Kroos and Luka Modric who should provide enough quality play to overcome any opposition they encounter.

Khedira

Khedira has proven an invaluable asset to Barca’s defence, restricting shots worth 0.07 xG per game – the second-lowest average across La Liga and division.

Barca have conceded fewer goals in LaLiga and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League despite looking disjointed for long stretches this season. Real Madrid have been more impressive continentally: unbeaten in five consecutive European matches!

Kroos

Barca’s defenders have come under scrutiny after an embarrassing Champions League campaign. Pique was caught napping when Inter scored their opening goal and Garcia looked lost against Viktoria Plzen, an unlikely victor.

Kroos and Modric are excellent players, yet lack the technical ability of Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets; something which could prove costly in Tuesday’s match-up.

Carvajal

They have squared off 253 times in competitive competition (excluding friendlies). Madrid lead Barcelona by one victory thanks to their run through Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and UEFA Cup competitions which no longer exist.

Benzema’s three goals against Barcelona in the 22/23 Copa del Rey semi-final saw him surpass Raul as La Liga’s leading goalscorer – another enormous victory for French striker Benzema.

Neymar

In March 2023, Barcelona hosted their 253rd competitive El Clasico. While quality has varied throughout, Barcelona still hold an edge when it comes to winning head-to-head matches.

Busquets, Iniesta and Xavi trained at Masia were widely considered one of the best midfield trios ever seen in modern football history. Unfortunately for Madrid however, current crop of players cannot compare; Luka Modric and Toni Kroos may be top players, but lack the technical abilities needed to form such an effective midfield trio alongside them.
