AdLock: A multi-platform ad blocker that does the trick
Ads seem inescapable these days. From watching a YouTube video to reading an article such as this one, sometimes they can feel overwhelming – like you’re being bombarded with sales, products, and services everywhere you turn in the digital world. Don’t even get us started on webpage ads with audio, they’ve startled us on more than one occasion.
Eventually, you reach a point where you say “Enough is enough!” and look for a way to avoid advertising altogether. The answer is to download or install an ad blocker. (Unless you want to just leave the internet completely, but that’s a bit extreme.) However, it can be a bit tricky to find a reliable ad blocker that keeps advertisements at bay on a consistent basis, without letting any sneak through.
There are plenty of free options out there, but again, they generally let a few sidebar ads sneak under the radar or occasionally aren’t able to block those Twitch pre-rolls. AdLock, on the other hand, while it is a service you have to pay for, is very reliable in keeping those pesky advertisements from landing in front of your eyeballs.
Testing the app
Before you shell out a few bucks a month on AdLock, they let you test it with a free 14-day trial. If you don’t like it then you can uninstall at that point. If you’re still on the fence about whether AdLock is right for you can register by making an account and you’re able to get another thirty whole days to test the ad blocker for free.
At the end of that trial, though, you’ll be forced to decide if the program is worth paying $10.19 a month – though after a month and a half of living on the internet without ads, odds are you’re not going to want to go back.
Device availability
AdLock is available for iOS, Macs, Safari browsers, Android phones, and Windows computers – it blocks all ads, from personalized Google ads to video ads. In fact, AdLock boasts blocking six different kinds of ads: search ads from AdSense, sponsored Google results, PPC media advertisement, shopping ads, video ads, and application advertising campaigns. It’s hard to find a program that will block Google ads on Android, so this is a real win.
Other app functions
Believe it or not, AdLock doesn’t just block advertisements from your phone and PC. On Android devices you’ll find the ability to turn on a data saving feature to keep your battery from draining too quickly – especially helpful since AdLock runs in the background.
The app also has built-in firewall and security measures to keep your online browsing safe and harder to track. Internet privacy is harder and harder to come by, so again, this feature is nice to see.
Downloading
If this app seems like something you might be interested in giving a try it’s worth noting you aren’t going to find AdLock in the app store. Instead you’ll have to download the program from the AdLock website and allow your phone to enable installations from unknown sources.
Once you download the app it will ask for your permission to do certain actions, a commonplace experience when downloading apps these days. Just be sure to read the permissions to make sure they’re the kinds of things you’re okay with.
After that just turn on the AdLock program and experience the internet like it’s a new world – a world where advertising and monetization of your viewership doesn’t exist. It sounds a bit utopian, but it also feels a bit utopian when you press play on a YouTube video & it immediately starts playing without you having to hit “skip ad” first. Ads can waste your time, distract you, and even cause anxiety – don’t let them harass you any more than they already have.
